MEET MIKE

Mike and his wife, Barb, have lived in Elmhurst and the 4th Ward 36 years. They are parents of two boys, David and Brian, who went through Elmhurst schools. Barb, has taught and is the Director at Tree Town Cooperative Nursery School a position she has held since 2008. Tree Town is located in the 4th Ward!  Mike learned the need to speak up and get along with others, he is one of six children all of whom still reside in Illinois.

Community Involvement

For over a decade, Mike has been engaged with issues facing the city and especially those affecting the 4th Ward. He participated in pushing for stormwater remediation, working with the group of residents in the fourth ward to make improvements a priority. Mike has spoken and/or worked with residents on encouraging responsible development projects, train noise/delays and fiscal responsibility. He is a graduate of the Citizen’s Police Academy.

Mike joined the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation in 2015 and soon after became chair of the Development Committee, in charge of raising funds which supports the Elmhurst History Museum. He served as President in 2018 and 2019 and served on the board until the end of 2022. During his tenure, the board restructured committees to better address the organizations’ needs and coordinated the transition of the largest Foundation fundraiser, from a partnership to an event run solely by the Foundation. While president, the Foundation celebrated its 10th Anniversary which Mike organized as co-chair. Today, Mike serves on the Executive Board of the Elmhurst Craft Beer Fest Committee, handles the media for the event and interacts with brewers from all over Chicagoland. This continues to be the largest annual fundraiser the Foundation has.

As a board member of the United Community Concerns Board, which assists feeding families throughout Elmhurst, Mike has assisted in the Turkey Trot registration, delivered food boxes, monthly mobile food pantry food distribution and Taste of the Town. These volunteer experiences have given Mike an opportunity to engage with many residents.

Mike has been a member of St. Peter’s Church for 30 years serving as President of the Council, Chair of a Sr. Pastor Search Committee, Chair of Deacons, head usher and Chair of the Audit Committee for over 20 years. Recently, they have become active in Christ Church, although Mike has continued his work auditing for St. Peter’s.
